Holland Water's founder, Leo de Zeeuw, and technical expert Wiebe Pool, developed a brilliant idea for the precise dosing of copper and silver ions. This concept was so innovative and effective that it has since been patented. As a result, 20 years ago, a revolutionary new application of the method was born to make and keep water systems free of Legionella: the HW Bifipro® for drinking water systems.

Accumulated copper ions play a key role in deactivating and eroding biofilm over time, which is the primary breeding ground for Legionella bacteria and the source of widespread colonization. Copper is crucial for ensuring the long-term effectiveness of biocide application and Legionella control.
Silver ions are especially effective in the early stages by directly killing free-floating Legionella bacteria. The symbiotic interaction between copper and silver also plays a significant role in this process.
